Flower Care
To get the longest vase life out of your flowers consider some or all of the following tips.
-
Clean Your Vase – A clean vase prevents bacteria from shortening the life of your flowers. Make sure your vase is clean enough to drink out of.
-
Trim the Stems – Before placing flowers in a vase, cut about an inch off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This helps them take in more water.
-
Change the Water – Replace the water every 1-2 days to keep flowers fresh. Adding flower food or a pinch of sugar can help too.
-
Keep Flowers Cool – Avoid direct sunlight, heat, and drafts. A cool spot will help your flowers last longer.
-
Remove Leaves in Water – Any leaves that touch the water can cause bacteria, so trim them off to keep your flowers healthy.
-
Re-cut the Stems – Every 2-3 days, trim the stems again to help with water absorption.
-
Mist the Petals – Lightly spray the petals with water to keep them hydrated, especially in warm areas. This is most helpful with flowers such as hydrangea.
-
Remove Wilting Flowers – Take out any wilting flowers to keep the rest looking fresh.
-
Keep Flowers Away From Ripening Fruit - Ripening fruit releases a gas called ethylene which causes flowers to age at a more rapid rate
